It’s not easy being Frank Lampard these days, as Chelsea have won just one of their last six Premier League games, losing against table rivals Arsenal and Manchester City along the way.

The club are perhaps going through their worst spell since the former midfielder took over from Maurizio Sarri, and a lot of fingers have been pointed at the summer acquisitions, namely Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

The two Germans arrived at Stamford Bridge with a lot of expectations and hefty transfer fees, yet neither have lived up to them so far.

The former RB Leipzig star hasn’t scored in the league since November 7th against Sheffield United, while his national teammate hasn’t started the last four games and hasn’t found the back of the net since October 17th.

But, at the end of the day, it’s up to Frank Lampard to get the best out of them, and the man in charge will always be the first in the firing line.

That being said, one of their former managers, Carlo Ancelotti, has asked his ex-club to give the midfielder he once managed more time.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: “They’ve bought a lot of players in the summer and in this case, like at Juventus, there needs to be patience, a rare commodity in football”.

That might seem very generous from a direct rival in the league table, but we all know what kind of person Ancelotti is, so it isn’t all that surprising to see him back a man he knows well at a club where he won both the Premier League and the FA Cup during the 2009-10 season.
