Tahith Chong isn’t having a bad few weeks.
The 19 year old came on as a substitute against PSG in France and saw his Manchester United side win the match 3-1, going through to the quarterfinals of the Champions League where they’ll face Barcelona.
Then, the youngster was called up to Jong Oranje for the first time. He was late joining the Netherlands squad this week because his suitcase went missing on the way from Manchester Airport to Schiphol, which is a dose of reality.
On arrival, Chong has been speaking to the media.
They wanted to know about his big night in Paris and the footballer still sounds somewhat shocked by the whole situation. NOS quote him as saying: “I had to warm up and suddenly heard a whistle from the trainer. I still can’t describe it. Really fantastic.”
It could have gone very badly, with the Manchester United giving the ball away not so long after coming on: “Fortunately, no goal came out, so I got away with it.”
Chong was then asked about a potential return to former club Feyenoord, on what would be a loan transfer: “A difficult question because I don’t think about it now. I only think about United. Everything is possible, I don’t exclude anything. What happens in the future, it happens.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to be in charge at Old Trafford next season and it will be down to him and those who advise Chong to decide what the best next step is.
