Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite has admitted he is hoping for a better result against Arsenal than his last meeting when he faces them with PSV Eindhoven this week.

Branthwaite is currently on loan at the Dutch side, having joined them in the summer when it became clear playing time would be limited at Everton this season.

He’s been making regular appearances for them since both domestically and in Europe in the Europa League.

This evening sees PSV travelling to Arsenal in what is technically match day 2 of Group A after the original fixture was postponed due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side head into the game after a decent start to the season that sees them sitting second in the Eredivisie and second in the group in the Europa League.

Branthwaite is hoping to be a starter in that game and, speaking in the press conference, was asked about his last meeting with Arsenal while playing for Everton, a 5-1 defeat at the end of last season.

“Yes, I think so,” BD report him saying when asked if this is PSV’s ‘biggest test’ so far.

“I do remember that one (the 5-1). That was a difficult game, a difficult season for us as well.

“We will only hear tomorrow who will be in the starting line-up. Arsenal are a top team, have had a very good start.

“But I think if we stick to our plan, we can go for a result. The collective is good and if we play compact, we could draw or win. We have those qualities. It will be an exciting game against a good team.”
