Arsenal’s Thomas Partey is on the front page of today’s Mundo Deportivo as Barcelona are keen on signing him.
The midfielder has less than a year left on his contract and his long-term future at Arsenal remains uncertain.
Barca are looking at players with expiring contracts and the midfielder is included in their list.
The La Liga side have identified the 31-year-old as a target to replace Frenkie de Jong.
De Jong’s deal lasts until 2026, and Barcelona have given up on his renewal, also because of the Dutchman’s poor form. The Catalan club are considering selling De Jong next summer and replacing him with the Arsenal player.
The Ghana international has been a regular for Mikel Arteta’s side this season, making 25 appearances. He also has the experience of playing in La Liga from his time at Atlético Madrid.
Mundo add Barca sporting director Deco has long been an admirer of Partey and has been on top of his situation. It won’t be easy for the Spanish club to sign him because Arsenal are ‘bidding hard’ to hold on to him.
On December 11th, Africa Foot stated Mikel Arteta is pushing Arsenal to offer Partey a two-year extension.
These reports indicate the Gunners are determined to hold on to Partey and with Barca now showing interest, they have to push to renew his contract.
