This week, reports from the Italian press claimed that Everton are interested in signing Gabriel Barbosa. It’s been said that Rafa Benitez has been following the Flamengo star.
Even though the news didn’t come from a big media outlet, the rumour got to Brazil, where fans started asking about it and journalist Jorge Nicola went after the story.
On his Youtube channel, he explains he checked the story with Gabigol’s representatives. The first reply he got was one of them saying that ‘for now, this is a corridor talk’.
Nicola claims he wanted to know more about that answer. Then he got to learn that another one of the striker’s representatives is attending the Florida Cup, just like Everton.
So at the tournament, there’s been ‘rumours and conversations’ trying to understand Gabigol’s situation and how much it’d cost to sign him from Flamengo.
The striker’s release clause is €30m, and even though there’s the chance of a transfer being negotiated for less, Jorge Nicola claims he ‘doubts’ the Brazilian side would do it, as they’d battle to get the full amount.
He recalls that Flamengo spent €16m to sign Gabigol from Inter Milan. Since arriving at the club in January 2019, the player has put together 68 goals in 96 appearances.
