On Wednesday afternoon, news broke around Italy of a late interest from Napoli for Matteo Darmian, with a journalist on Rai Sport even claiming an €18m bid was placed for the Manchester United full-back.

Two other outlets, Calciomercato and Tuttosport also joined in, although their stance was more that Carlo Ancelotti’s new club were trying to use the stalemate between the Red Devils and Juventus to their advantage without a mention of an offer.

On Thursday, Gazzetta dello Sport chip in with their own bit of information, and if any Manchester United fans were excited at the prospect of seeing Darmian leave for Napoli soon, don’t be.

The Italian newspaper claim that while there might be some interest from the newcomer, the full-back is only interested in signing for Juventus and ‘will not accept another offer’, having ‘given his word’.

If we are to believe everything that’s out there, the situation stands as is: Napoli have offered €18m, while the Serie A champions have only offered €15m.

Manchester United are demanding around €20m, which is why there has been no progress of late.

Someone has to give in, and we hope they do so very soon.
