The last thing Jason Denayer wanted this year was another summer spent shuffling around The Lowry’s corridors waiting to hear what’s happening with his future.

In the past two years Denayer has been sent on later loans to Galatasaray and Sunderland, with the moves not necessarily being his first choice. Manchester City have had the deciding say up to this point and, perhaps surprisingly, it hasn’t got to the stage that Denayer’s agent has put the foot down.

Today is Denayer’s 22nd birthday, and he has a Manchester City contract until 2020, there’s still every chance he could have a meaningful City future, and a loan to Lyon looked part of that.

A couple of days ago there were claims from Belgium of Denayer agreeing personal terms with Lyon, and that followed nicely from reports in France. However, Wednesday’s edition of L’Equipe claims the whole thing could fall to pieces.

That’s because of Girona.

Lyon and Denayer may be happy to work together, but Manchester City ‘have another plan’, say L’Equipe, and that’s to send him to Girona.

City Football Group is in the process of taking over Grona and will run the club with Pere Guardiola’s company Media Base.

Denayer doesn’t want to go to Girona, feeling Lyon are a bigger club with a better team, both points impossible to argue with.

If L’Equipe are correct, and Manchester City are trying to shovel Denayer towards their FC Girona Guardiola project, then it’s probably time for his agent to put that foot down.
