Collapsing with a head injury against Udinese, David Ospina has yet to return for Napoli where Alex Meret is the undisputed starter these days.
On loan from Arsenal, the Colombian goalkeeper’s future remains in the air, despite direct reassurances in the press from his manager Carlo Ancelotti that he would stay in the south of Italy beyond the current campaign.
Up until his injury, the media were echoing the former Chelsea manager, explaining that De Laurentiis and co. were willing to pay Arsenal the pre agreed fee, which could also be triggered through a number of appearances.
However, Il Mattino on Tuesday aren’t as confident as they once were, revealing that signing the Arsenal shot stopper isn’t ‘obvious’ despite Carlo Ancelotti’s stance.
Much like he was with the Gunners, Ospina is only seen as a cup goalkeeper, as the starting role remains Meret’s going forward.
Whether the Arsenal man will be happy with that remains to be seen, even if his father has repeated over and over again that his son is happy in Naples.
We’ll have to wait and see how this one develops over the last few games of the season, as everything could change once more with some good performances in the Europa League against… the Gunners.
