For the past few months, there has been talk of Fiorentina being ready to turn Lucas Torreira’s loan from Arsenal into a permanent transfer.
The two clubs agreed on a €15m price tag in order to ensure that an easy deal could be struck should the move go as planned, which it has.
The midfielder has been one of the stars under Vincenzo Italiano, and it didn’t take long for stories of Fiorentina paying the fee to Arsenal to emerge.
They have always come with talk of a possible negotiation for a discount, but with the Uruguayan midfielder shining as he has done, there’s little incentive for the Gunners to agree to anything other than €15m up front for their player.
Still, the belief is that there is something underway, with it made clear by Gazzetta dello Sport that ‘Fiorentina are working on the redemption from Arsenal’.
What those are isn’t said, but something should be sorted out soon, because there is a ‘desire to close by Easter’.
As for Torreira himself, ‘the player would like to stay in Florence where he was reborn after some difficult seasons’.
Now we have to just wait and see whether Arsenal feel like being nice to Fiorentina, or if they will stand firm on their price, much like they did with AS Roma last season when they came knocking for Granit Xhaka.
