Hamburg sporting director Ralf Becker has indicated to the German media Pierre Michel Lasogga could still have a future with the Bundesliga 2 side.
The forward is technically still on loan with Leeds United until the end of the month and there’s uncertainty over his future with the Whites not looking to make the move permanent.
Hamburger Morgenpost have reported on comments Becker made to Sky Germany when asked about the Leeds United loanee: “He is an absolute top scorer, with his quality he could do good for us in the second division. Of course, we’ve been in touch with him to talk about it.”
“The fact is: The player has a contract with HSV and we can well imagine working with him as well. We talked for the first time, but we have not worked through everything in detail yet.”
Lasogga joined Leeds United last summer and he hit the ground running in his first several games for the club. However, there were always doubts about the fitness of the former Germany U21 international and he found himself in and out of the team.
With Lasogga set to return to Germany there have been concerns at relegated Hamburg as he would still be paid his full €3m plus a season salary as agreed when he signed his contract.
Last season Leeds United paid a contribution to his wage, but Hamburg would have to cover this when he returns in July. However, despite the German side’s dire financial problems it seems he could be given a second chance to prove himself.
