On May 30th, DH in Belgium explained that should Chancel Mbemba return to the Jupiler League, he would end up being the best paid player in the division.

The Newcastle centre-back was said to be a target for Anderlecht, Club Brugge and Standard Liège after his agent offered his services around a month or so ago.

Liège seemed to be in the lead, with Mbemba reported to be ‘charmed’ following a meeting with the club’s chairman and their new manager Michel Preud’homme.

However, it appears Anderlecht are the first to have come forward with an actual offer for the player, as DH on Tuesday claim an ‘enticing’ (in the headline) and ‘interesting’ (in the article) four-year contract has been put in front of the Newcastle defender.

Despite this, the transfer is still some way off from being completed as the Magpies are yet to agree a fee with the Belgian side.

Down the player’s end, Mbemba is said to be ‘tempted’ by a return to Anderlecht, where he spent three years between 2012 and 2015 following his move from MK Etanchéité in DR Congo.

In May 30th article, the defender was said to want to take at least a week to make up his mind, and that time has yet to pass.

Give him a few more days.
