Fenerbahçe’s Martin Skrtel has spoken to the club’s official website and has discussed his time at Liverpool, along with his future plans in the game.

The Slovakian was highly regarded by Liverpool fans and at Fenerbahçe this has also been the case. Already loved by Fenerbahçe fans, Skrtel has forged a great defensive partnership with Simon Kjaer.

Fenerbahçe fans like the warrior attitude he showed during his time at Liverpool, and the 32-year old has certainly found himself a new home in Fenerbahçe.

When asked about Manchester United matches Skrtel said: “They were always booing me. For me it’s not a problem, I even like it sometimes. These protests certainly mean you’ve achieved a lot of things while playing for Liverpool. For me this is the reason why Manchester United fans hates me. I played at Old Trafford at many times and I have won the majority of the games.

“I think this rivalry is pretty much the same with Fenerbahçe-Galatasaray. Both sets of fans are very passionate so it’s normal that protests keep coming, I’m fine with that. Unless they throw some dangerous things on the field, I am okay with that.”

Manchester United and Liverpool meet each other at Old Trafford later in the month as the race for the top 4 heats up. The two sides played out a goalless draw in the game at Anfield earlier in the season, when Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp cancelled each other out.

Skrtel probably looks too deeply into why Manchester United fans didn’t like him, and almost certainly has exaggerated his singling out. But if Martin Skrtel wants a Turkish audience to believe he was a big hate figure in Manchester United and Liverpool matches then who are we to stop him?
