Sport reported on Monday that Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez’s move to Arsenal is ‘very advanced’.
On January 22nd, another Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo claimed the former Villarreal man’s move to the Emirates should be completed ‘shortly’, but so far no deal has taken shape.
If the report from today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo is to be believed, the Gunners have suffered a blow in their pursuit of the midfielder.
Unai Emery had made it clear that his side will only be looking to sign players on loan in January and they were looking for a temporary deal for the Spaniard, at a cost of around €2m.
The La Liga winners wanted to include a mandatory purchase option, while the north London club wanted to have an option to make the deal permanent in the summer.
However, the player has turned down an opportunity to extend his deal.
Crucially, it states Suarez has ‘not accepted the conditions’ offered. That would make it sound like an issue between the player and Barca.
With Arsenal not agreeing Barcelona’s terms and the player himself deciding against signing an extension, the negotiations between the two clubs have collapsed.
Suarez has already informed Ernesto Valverde that he is staying and ‘barring a new drastic change’, he will be at the Camp Nou beyond this month.
On Wednesday, Sport have an update saying Suarez isn’t in Barca’s squad to travel to Sevilla, and they add: ‘Denis Suarez and Barca are still negotiating a possible departure for the midfielder in this winter market.’
This one can’t be dead, not completely, not just yet.
