After four years spent away on loan at three different clubs, Jason Denayer finally left Manchester City permanently, ending up at Lyon in Ligue 1.
Officially announced on Tuesday, the Belgian defender’s transfer will cost the French side €6.5m up front, with €3.5m in bonuses.
Presented to the press on Wednesday morning, Denayer was asked why he chose Lyon as the club to continue his career at after Manchester City.
He said, relayed by Foot Mercato: “I think everyone, and in any sport, wants stability. After four years, I needed something stable, something to focus on long-term. Lyon is a club with a lot of visibility, which will allow me to show me and return with the national team”.
Another plus for the defender was that Bruno Génésio plans on using him in the centre of defence, unlike his spell at Sunderland when he played as a full back or a defensive midfielder.
Furthermore, the now former Manchester City man explained he had wanted to play for Lyon for a while, but talks never went as far as they did this summer.
Despite being contracted to Pep Guardiola’s side for five years, Denayer never made an appearance for the Cityzens, only featuring twice on their bench back in 2015.
