Barcelona defender Eric Garcia has claimed his club should be looking at a move for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva this summer.
The Catalan giants are set to continue their rebuild under Xavi throughout this window, with the Spanish boss wanting to overhaul the squad he inherited from Ronald Koeman.
Work is already underway on that front, with deals for Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie already secured and other big-name targets on the radar.
There is also a major outgoing operation planned, with the club’s hierarchy determined to get rid of a long list of players to reduce the wage bill and bring in much-needed funds to the Nou Camp.
The focus is very much on incomings, though, and finding players who will fit in perfectly into the style of football Xavi wants his side to play moving forwards.
Silva would certainly fit into that bracket, having established himself as a star for Manchester City, particularly this past season, in which he scored 13 and assisted seven in 50 games in all competitions.
That came after a summer in which he was linked with a move away from Manchester City, something that is likely to happen again this year.
And if that is the case, his former teammate would love to see him rocking up at the Nou Camp.
“He’s a great player. He has incredible talent. He’s capable of playing in several positions,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“He is one of those little footballers, of which there are fewer and fewer. He’s a player I have a lot of affection for as a person and, above all, a lot of admiration for what he does on the pitch. He is brutal”.
“At Barça, I’ve always said that the best players have to be there, and it’s clear that Bernardo is one of them.
“But well, I don’t know until when he has a contract in Manchester, and these are things that I can’t go into.”
