Nottingham Forest have easily been one of the most active clubs on the transfer market over the past year or so, and January was no different.
One of their main aims was to bolster their defence, and that’s exactly what they did by signing Alexander Milosevic and Yohan Benalouane permanently as well as bringing in Molla Wagué from Udinese on loan.
One transfer they didn’t manage to pull off, however, is that of Antonio Raillo, currently contracted at Mallorca in Spain.
Speaking to AS on Wednesday, the La Liga2 defender opened up about the offer made to him by Nottingham Forest, but appears to have no regrets about turning the Championship club down.
He said: “It was a really good opportunity but I stayed with a smile on my face and you can see it on the pitch. No one can say I threw in the towel and didn’t give my all for the club.”
RCD Mallorca currently sit eighth in Spain’s second division, just a couple of points behind Real Oviedo in sixth who occupy the first promotion playoff spot.
Perhaps Raillo just wanted to finish the season and see if he could get his club promoted before having a look elsewhere.
You never know, maybe Martin O’Neill and co. will still be waiting for him in June.
