Kai Havertz’s goal in extra-time helped Chelsea beat Palmeiras 2-1 in the FIFA Club World Cup final at the weekend.
César Azpilicueta gave the impression he was going to take the penalty, with the intention to take pressure off the Germany international, who then stepped forward and converted from the spotkick.
Barcelona have interest in the defender, whose contract at Stamford Bridge expires in June.
Sport on Sunday points out the mind games played by the 32-year-old before Havertz took the penalty. They then explain ‘the future player of Barcelona’ was ‘key for Chelsea in the difficult moment’, which shows some confidence over the signing.
Another report from the same newspaper on Monday states the Spain international is an ‘objective’ of the Catalan club.
Sport explain ‘there is interest’ from Xavi Hernández’s side in the Blues captain, but there is ‘no agreement’ for him to arrive at the Camp Nou on a free transfer in the summer.
Over at Mundo Deportivo, they also state Barcelona are one of the clubs that ‘want’ the Blues star. Apart from them, Bayern Munich are also interested in him.
Azpilicueta, however, wants to hear the Champions League winners’ renewal offer first, before making a decision on where he will play next season.
Mundo report this will be the ‘decisive week’ as Azpilicueta plans to have a meeting with Chelsea director,Marina Granovskaia, to define his future.
