Ready to make his debut for Germany, Brentford FC winger Kevin Schade had a word with his home country’s media.
The 21-year-old was interviewed by Kicker about his chance to play for the national team, and couldn’t avoid talking about his move to the Premier League as well.
It was in the January transfer window that Schade left Freiburg to join Brentford on a loan which includes an conditioned buying clause worth €25m.
The winger was now asked about the reasons why he chose to left the Bundesliga side in the middle of the season, especially with them doing well in the Europa League, and he had a couple of motives for that.
The first is because he wasn’t getting all the playing time he wanted at Freiburg.
“It wasn’t good for me personally, even after the injury,” said Schade.
“I played less, sometimes not at all. The first eleven worked very well, it was difficult for me. But I’m young, I need time to play and practice. That was the decisive point.”
Then there’s the most obvious one, which is his desire to play in the Premier League.
“Of course the Premier League. For years I’ve dreamed of playing against the best and with the best.”
Schade also talked about his moment at Brentford, claiming he could soon draw the attention from other English sides.
“Brentford is similar to what Freiburg was maybe three years ago. They bring in young players to develop them, but they also give them time. If you do it well, the English top players will have you right away clubs on the radar.”
Since joining Brentford, the winger has eight appearances for the club, with one assist made, and still working for his first goal.
