The Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to Manchester United rumour is really getting carried away with itself and at the speed it’s going there could be claims of a medical tomorrow.
In reality, it does feel like little bits of the story are being picked up here and there, packaged together in the most optimistic way, and turned into something they’re probably not. Not yet, anyway.
Claims started on Friday from SportMediaSet, who said Lazio director of sport Iglo Tare was travelling to London to hear offers for the midfielder, with Manchester United pushed forward as especially interested.
On Saturday, Corriere della Sera said there was a ‘war’ for the player, involving the Premier League club, PSG and Inter Milan.
However, whilst that was their headline, their article made it clear this claimed war was rather mild, with most clubs backing away.
Both claims stated Lazio would likely accept €80m for the midfielder, which could be the actual message to take from the whole thing.
Later it was claimed on social media that Marca reported a €75m offer from Manchester United. They did not.
Sunday’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport report these are ‘decisive hours’ in the player’s future. The Red Devils ‘push’ for the signing, and have a €75m offer ready.
Tare is said to have ‘ongoing contacts’ with the club for Milinkovic-Savic, and his agent, former Chelsea player Mateja Kezman, is expected in London in the coming hours.
Lazio would like PSG to get involved, although that’s not thought likely.
Again, this feels like Lazio pushing the player to market, but Manchester United could potentially take the opportunity.
