In their Wednesday ‘confidencial’ section, Catalan newspaper Sport report that a decision over Gerard Deulofeu has been ‘frozen’ by Barcelona.
Despite there being repeated claims previously that a decision had already been made, and Barcelona would use their €12m buying option with Everton, everything has slowed down and even gone into reverse.
Sport say Deulofeu’s situation ‘is not as clear as a few weeks ago’, and everyone involved has given themselves more time to decide. That’s apart from Everton, who have to wait and see what Barcelona decide before putting Deulofeu on the open market.
A ‘deep conversation’ is planned with the player, with Deulofeu obviously being concerned about playing time at Barcelona, something which could completely kill the idea of a return.
Sport’s piece doesn’t sound too tempting for the Everton owned player, with it being explained that Barcelona would be really motivated to sign him if they spend too much money elsewhere and his bargain price becomes irresistible.
If that is mentioned in the ‘deep conversation’ with the player, Everton may be best advised to start considering other options for Deulofeu.
