German newspaper Bild are reporting David Wagner taking over at Wolfsburg as a sure thing. It’s currently the biggest sport story for Europe’s biggest selling newspaper.
Bild say Huddersfield Town manager Wagner is in ‘advanced discussions’ to take over at Bundesliga strugglers Wolfsburg, and therefore leave his role with the Championship club.
It’s claimed that the move could be made official before the end of the week, and they sound pretty certain.
However, right at the bottom of their article, Bild reveal they’ve spoken to Wagner’s agent Marc Kosicke, who told them there’s no imminent agreement for the switch.
There was no denial of talks taking place and no reassurance for Huddersfield fans who will be increasingly worried their manager is set to leave the club.
Earlier on Monday, Germany’s Kicker claimed that Huddersfield’s Wagner is in talks to take over at Wolfsburg, and they said he has a clause in his contract facilitating an exit.
Wolfsburg would have to pay Huddersfield a year’s worth of Wagner’s salary, which is thought to be less than €1m.
A Major part of the story for Bild is that Wagner is a friend of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who continues to pick up the column inches in Germany. Bild, like every newspaper, do get things wrong, but they’re going huge on this one.
