Tottenham Hotspur’s Radu Drăgușin is expected to make it to the European championship with Romania even if he were to struggle to have a prominent role at the north London club, according to Pro Sport.

It’s been over a month since the Premier League side completed the signing of the centre-back from Genoa.

Drăgușin was a regular for the Serie A side and his fine displays convinced Tottenham to invest €25m to secure his services.

The Romania international has been restricted to eight minutes from three league games for Spurs so far and was left on the bench in his side’ 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.

Pro Sport have a detailed report on the 23 players who could receive a call up from Romania manager Edward Iordănescu for the Euros in the summer and have also spoken to several sources.

It’s claimed both the Tottenham player and Andrei Burcă, who joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Okhdood in 2023, should be ‘indisputable starters’ for the national team in the defence.

There is, however, concern in Romania that the 22-year-old defender could be a backup under Ange Postecoglou until the end of this season, leaving him short of match fitness for the competition.

“Burcă is one of the leaders of the dressing room, he has experience including in European cups, and the transfer to Al-Okhdood doesn’t  seem to have negatively impacted his pace and level so far,” sources have told Pro Sport.

“For Drăgușin, the only danger is that he stagnates in the reserve position at Tottenham. Even so, he has a chance to get minutes at the club until the Euros. His presence in the team is certain, it remains to be seen at the friendlies in March if he is at the level of the preliminaries.”
