Crystal Palace and Southampton have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Torino’s Soualiho Meité with chairman Urbano Cairo ready to negotiate a deal.
The 26-year-old midfielder joined the Italian side in a £10.35m deal from Monaco in 2018 but after a strong start has endured a tough second year at the club.
This year has been particularly disappointing as far as the club are concerned, and according to Calciomercato, they are now ready to part with him in the summer.
Despite his ‘subdued performances’ in the last few months, there is plenty of interest in him, ‘especially abroad’ and from the Premier League in particular.
Crystal Palace and Southampton are both among his suitors, having followed him for several months already.
They both made their move back in April, with Gazzetta Dello Sport reporting that there had been the start of an approach from both clubs via intermediaries.
There’s been no mention of their interest since then, but they may have now been handed an opportunity to make their move.
Calciomercato report that Torino president Urbano Cairo is now ready to negotiate for the midfielder, although it isn’t mentioned what sort of deal he’s looking for at this stage.
That is something to be discovered at a later date but if either Crystal Palace’s or Southampton’s interest was as genuine as it seemed to be in April, now may be the time to make it more official.
