Crystal Palace are interested in Lille manager Paulo Fonseca, according to claims from France.

Journalist Ignazio Genuardi reports that since Roy Hodgson is ‘not eternal’, the Eagles now watch the Portuguese boss’ situation.

The interest from the Premier League isn’t something new for Fonseca, as before Crystal Palace, West Ham United were also linked to him.

The rumour showed up last summer, and Genuardi points out the coach ‘remains popular’ among English clubs. West Ham don’t seem to have a need to identify managerial options any longer, with David Moyes starting the season well.

Crystal Palace have been looking fine in the Premier League, with 12 points after eight fixtures, and currently stand in ninth place.

That means Hodgson’s position doesn’t seem to be in danger, and the option to sign Fonseca would be if the manager decided to call it a day, potentially at the end of the season.

Following jobs at Porto, Paços Ferreira, Braga, Shakhtar Donetsk and AS Roma, Fonseca arrived at Lille in the summer of 2022.

After 53 matches in charge of the French side, he has 26 wins, 15 draws and 12 losses. They finished fifth in Ligue 1 last season, and are in 7th this season so far.
