On March 29th, Spanish website Fichajes published a surprising story about Tottenham misfit Moussa Sissoko. The French midfielder hasn’t put the effort in to please Mauricio Pochettino and a summer exit looks a distinct possibility.
Fichajes claimed Spanish TV station Telecinco had reported, during a re-run of France’s match against Spain, Sissoko is on the verge of a move to Chelsea. Telecinco allegedly said there’s outline agreement on the transfer, and Sissoko is ‘a step away’ from Chelsea.
That was then lapped up by media around Europe. However, we’ve done a little digging and there’s no other reference to this TV report. Indeed, the only references about what Telecinco said about Sissoko during the match don’t exactly fill one with confidence. Football fans have blasted Telecinco for having a feature explaining Sissoko as a player, whilst all the time actually using images of Tiemoué Bakayoko.
At this stage it seems safe to dismiss the claim. The only reliable claim of interest recently has come from L’Equipe, who explained Crystal Palace are still keen on the player.
The French newspaper reported last week Sissoko is likely to leave Tottenham in the summer, and Crystal Palace retain an interest. Despite Palace changing managers from Alan Pardew to Sam Allardyce, they’re apparently still keen.
It’s still nothing advanced, but it certainly sounds more reliable than a claim from a TV station who don’t actually know who Moussa Sissoko is.
