Manchester United’s Europa League opponents Club Brugge want to strengthen their strike force in January and have identified Christian Benteke as a target, according to Het Laatste Nieuws.
The Jupiler Pro League side signed Simon Mignolet from Liverpool in the summer and his arrival has given them the boost to consider making an approach for the Crystal Palace striker.
Brugge have made capital gains from transfers, meaning they will have the financial muscle to sign Benteke. It’s claimed the Eagles ‘look forward’ to a call from the Belgian side about the 29-year-old.
Palace are open to doing business and will consider sanctioning Benteke’s sale,if they receive a chunk of the €31.2m they paid to Liverpool in 2016. He could cost Brugge around €12-€15m.
HLN makes it clear the reason Palace aren’t officially aware of Brugge’s interest in Benteke is because the club prefers to wait for a green signal from the player before making an approach.
With Palace open for a transfer, it’s now down to Club Brugge to convince the frontman to join them.
