Two days ago it was reported in England that Claudio Ranieri is the new manager of Nantes. It was wrong.
The former Leicester City manager was very close to becoming Nantes manager, and he still is, perhaps even closer, but he certainly hadn’t signed on the dotted line, and hadn’t been announced.
On Wednesday we covered claims from France that Ranieri had been stalling, and waiting for an offer from Crystal Palace. A return to the Premier League is tempting, and the Selhurst Park job would provide that, and a London base.
Ranieri agreed a two year deal with Nantes earlier this week, but his contract hasn’t arrived signed yet. L’Equipe state: ‘This delay could be explained by the fact Ranieri has received a last minute offer from Crystal Palace.’
Waldemar Kita, Nantes president is still ‘optimistic’ about securing Ranieri, so something somewhere doesn’t make sense.
If Ranieri had been stalling Nantes to wait for Crystal Palace, and received an offer from the club, then it surely follows that he’d be likelier to take that offer.
