Crippled by injuries at centre-back, Crystal Palace appear to be on the lookout for a good deal in January to get some strength in depth in the position, and Roy Hodgson is keeping an eye on a defender in Serie A if Corriere di Bologna are to be believed.

Also being tracked by Stoke City, as reported by various outlets in Italy, Sebastien de Maio is now a target for the Eagles, as the 30-year-old looks for a way out.

Only arriving in the summer from Anderlecht, the French centre-back has only played a bit part role at Bologna this season, appearing just 11 times.

Both Crystal Palace and Stoke have now enquired about his availability, and while no fee has been set, the fact he was bought for just £1.8m and his current situation suggest he won’t all that most expensive.

With Scott Dann out for the rest of the season and both Mamadou Sakho and Joel Ward nursing their own fitness issues, De Maio could certainly do a job at Selhurst Park.

He might even get more time than at Bologna.
