Giuseppe Bellusci had his Leeds United contract cancelled by mutual consent last summer. The 27-year-old is currently at Serie A side Empoli.
YEP journalist Phil Hay has posted on Twitter Bellusci is no longer a Leeds United player, and therefore will not be returning in the summer. It’s been claimed his contract was terminated last June before his move back to Italy.
It wasn’t expected the defender would return to Leeds United at the end of the season after his loan spell with Empoli. His agent recently said Bellusci wants to remain in Serie A for next season, whether it be with Empoli or not.
Earlier this season Bellusci said he wanted to return to his home country because he loves working on the defensive side of the game. Bellusci believes this wasn’t the case at Leeds United because Italians are tactically better, and said earlier this season: “For an Italian defender it’s a nightmare, but then you get used to it.”
The defender joined Leeds United from Catania in 2014, but it always seemed he had a desire to return to Italy. Bellusci came in for flak last season for his performances, which led to speculation he would return to his home country.
He’s been one of the better players from a difficult season for Empoli, and a stay in Serie A looks on the cards for the defender.
