Leeds United defender Giuseppe Bellusci has spoken to the Italian media about his struggles when he joined the club. The 27-year-old is currently on loan with Serie A side Empoli, who could make the transfer permanent next summer.

Speaking to Goal.it, Bellusci was asked about his time at Leeds United, and his current situation with the club. The central defender revealed his time at Leeds helped him develop as a person, and player, but said he still had his issues on the pitch.

Bellusci believes there aren’t many tactics in English football, which made it difficult for him being an Italian defender, although he did admit he got used to it in the end.

“My English adventure made me grow as a human and a player. There, the tactics are very little, and then you have to arrange, learn to play as a single, one against one, in huge areas. For an Italian defender is a nightmare, but then you get used to it,” said the Leeds United loanee.

Bellusci joined Leeds United from Catania in 2014, but it always seemed he had a desire to return to Italy. The player came in for flak last season for his performances, which led to speculation he would return to his home country.

The player jumped at the chance to join Empoli in the summer, and the Tuscan side have a right of redemption on the Italian if they want to make the transfer permanent.
