Towards the very end of the summer transfer window, Wolverhampton Wanderers angered Salernitana by offering a loan with an option to buy for Boulaye Dia.

The striker was very tempted by the move to the Premier League, but the Serie A side turned it down, which led to a big fall out lasting a number of weeks.

While things have now calmed down in Italy between club and player, the idea that Wolves could still get their man hasn’t gone away, as explained by Lira TV, relayed by Salernitana News.

The 26-year-old has scored four goals in nine Serie A games so far this season, and he has once again established himself as the best striker in the team.

That’s why there is a ‘countdown to January’ when it comes to his future, since Lira TV report that a new deal was struck between Salernitana and the Senegal international to potentially facilitate an exit, with transfer ‘sirens’ expected.

They claim that, back in October, it was agreed that a new release clause be created, said to be worth €21m for European clubs, while those outside of Europe (hint hint Saudi Arabia) would have to pay €23m.

It’s recalled that Wolves did offer a loan with an option to buy at €18m, which was deemed unacceptable at a time when €30-40m was being requested, but a middle ground now appears to have been found.

This clause will be ‘in force’ until January 15th, meaning the Molineux side will have to strike swiftly if they want to get him.

It’s also worth pointing out that Dia is expected to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations, meaning that any deal for him in January would see him almost immediately exit his new club to go represent his country.
