Former Leeds United sporting director Nicola Salerno has spoken to the Italian media about his relationship with Massimo Cellino, and their time together in England.
The two Italians had success whilst working together at Cagliari, but less so at Leeds United.
Speaking to TMW, Salerno was asked about being reunited with Cellino at Brescia, following their time together at Cagliari and Leeds United: “We worked successfully in Cagliari, where I returned several times. Then also to Leeds. And now I’m at Brescia. Between us there is a cordial, beautiful relationship.”
Judging from Salerno’s comments it seems he was happy with the work he and Cellino did at Cagliari, but less so whilst at Leeds United.
Cellino appointed Salerno as Leeds United’s sporting director when he purchased the club in 2014. Salerno adopted a policy of bringing in players from Italy, including the likes of Tommaso Bianchi, Giuseppe Bellusci and Mirco Antenucci, but with mixed success.
Salerno lasted just a season with Leeds United before heading to Watford as a transfer consultant for the Pozzo family. Despite joining up with Watford there were reports earlier this year Salerno could be heading back to Elland Road,
However, with Cellino eventually selling Leeds United last summer, it was always likely Salerno would join him at his new club Brescia.
