Sweden manager Janne Andersson has singled out Celtic defender Mikael Lustig for praise, after his team last night made it to the World Cup play-offs.
Andersson has depended on Lustig throughout Sweden’s qualifying campaign, and the player has also been a regular under Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers, ever since the former Liverpool boss arrived at Celtic Park in 2016.
Sydsvenskan have reported on comments Andersson made in his press conference when he spoke about the contribution from the Celtic star: “I worked with the national team several years ago, and then you start working closer to the players and one of those who I feel contributes in every way is Micke (Lustig), both as a player and a guy.”
Lustig signed for Celtic from Rosenberg in 2012, and has gone on to make over 100 appearances in the Scottish Premiership. Since arriving at Celtic the Swede has won the league six times and the Scottish Cup on two occasions.
Last season the Swede made 49 appearances under Rodgers, the same number as Celtic’s star striker Moussa Dembele.
Lustig also has 61 caps for Sweden, and he’ll be expected to make Sweden’s squad if they get to Russia.
