Liverpool were named as one of the clubs to have showed interest in signing Athletic Club Bilbao star Iñaki Williams in the past.
At the start of this year, AS reported the Reds were willing to offer €88m to the La Liga side for the forward in 2019.
On July 25th, we covered a claim made by the same newspaper that Liverpool are keeping tabs on his brother, Nico, who also represents the Basque club.
Iñaki initially represented Spain and then changed his allegiance to Ghana in 2020, while Nico received his first call-up from La Roja in this month’s international break.
AS on Tuesday have published a detailed interview with Iñaki, in which he shared his views on representing Ghana and his brother making his debut for Spain. Towards the end, the 28-year-old was categorically asked how close he was to joining Liverpool.
Responding to that, Iñaki explained: “I had an option to leave. There were contacts in which I kept my position clear. It’s nice that clubs like this try to get you, but I was always clear that I want to be at Athletic.”
Neither AS nor Iñaki made clear when the Merseyside made an approach for the La Liga star.
It needs to be seen what Nico plans to do in the event Liverpool make an approach for him in the future.
