AS Roma’s attempt to sign Eric Dier from Tottenham Hotspur is now becoming a big story in the Italian media.

A couple of outlets have fresh stories on this pursuit. The first to bring their article was TuttoMercatoWeb, who explain that the deal is ‘possible’, with one condition.

The outlet claims Roma wouldn’t like to spend money in the January window. So in case they don’t make any sales, they’d only sign Dier on a loan for six months, preparing to land him as a free agent in the summer, when his contract with Tottenham expires. Another issue is that the defender is said to be asking for a three and a half year deal.

José Mourinho, who managed Dier at Spurs, reportedly had contacts with him and is on the job to get him signed.

The talks between manager and player are also reported by outlet Roma Giallorossa. Their story is pretty much the same as TMW’s, also claiming that the Serie A side’s intention is to sign Dier for free.

So it should all depend on Tottenham’s stance in January. Dier hadn’t been used by the club this season until last night, when he played for 56 minutes against Chelsea.
