As Arsenal are reportedly ready to sanction a Lucas Perez loan in this transfer market, an impressive list of competitors is being formed to land the striker.
Spanish newspaper Sport comes up with a story today saying there are five clubs wanting the player, all of them from La Liga. The first side to make contact was Espanyol, who were said to be well positioned, until they lost the spot for European qualification.
Perez’s former club, Deportivo La Coruña were also quick to show up wanting him back. The Arsenal player would favour them, but they already had to sell him because of his market value, and it would be hard to commit to his wages once again.
Sport claim it’s important for Arsenal to keep Perez playing European footvall because that’s a way to keep the player in the spotlight, so when selling, they can recover part of the amount paid last summer.
It’s Arsene Wenger’s cunning plan.
That’s why the latest clubs who have shown interest are now favourites to land the player: Villarreal will be in the Champions League next season, Real Sociedad will play in the Europa League. Plus there’s also Valencia, who are a big club and always receive attention.
According to Sport, it’s Real Sociedad who are the strongest side in the race. The club are expecting to make some good money after selling the former Arsenal player Carlos Vela, and the fee would become a resource to pay for Perez’s wages.
Espanyol may have initiated contact first, but the other clubs look they’ve trampled over them since.
