On Monday we covered claims from Mexico that Raul Jimenez had pulled out of the country’s squad to travel and play the USA.
It was explained the Wolves player was the latest in a line of players to see injury push them out of the current selection, and Jimenez’s issue was said to be ‘small muscular discomfort’.
Worryingly enough for Wolves, but not terrible news.
Now it seems the Mexican media aren’t altogether sure what the reason for withdrawal is. There’s no suggestion Jimenez doesn’t have permission to go back to Europe, that’s been confirmed, but the reasoning is unclear.
Mexico’s Proseco say Jimenez left the squad ‘at the request of his current club’, with Wolves ‘ready to face the fifth date of the tournament’.
ESPN Mexico state ‘As for Jimenez, it is not clear if he leaves the Tri to solve a personal problem, or at the request of his club, to prepare for the weekend match against Burnley on Sunday, September 16th. He would still train today in the afternoon, in the Nissan Stadium, but he will not remain with the national team and it is a fact that he will travel to England on Tuesday, although the reason is not clear.’
Both of Mexico’s matches during the current international break have been friendlies, which may be behind all the withdrawals.
