Destiny Udogie’s absence from any Italy squad for the upcoming international break has caused confusion in Italy, as the Tottenham man was their best player during the last break.
That’s according to Tuttomercatoweb, who say the defender was ‘surprisingly not called up’ by either the senior team or the U21s this week.
They explain that Udogie was a surprising absentee from the list announced by Italy manager Luciano Spalletti this week for the clashes against North Macedonia and Ukraine.
The Italy coach has ‘called the best at his disposal’ for the two games, in which they will ‘play for everything’ but for some reason this does not include Udogie.
The Tottenham’s man’s absence has caused plenty of questions and is ‘being discussed’ extensively given he was ‘among the best’ when they took on England in the last international break.
The confusion over the decision certainly hasn’t been helped by a lack of clarity from Italy, who are yet to explain whether the issue is physical, technical or something else entirely.
Either way the defender has been left out of the group and ignored by the U21s as well, an odd decision given the strong start he’s enjoyed to the season, aside from the obvious red card in Tottenham’s defeat to Chelsea on Monday.
