Earlier today we gathered together all the Spanish claims about Pablo Fornals swapping Villarreal for West Ham.
There’s some contradictions between various Spanish publications, but the general line is the midfielder is edging closer to signing for the Premier League club.
In Italy this all led to claims that Napoli were losing out. The Serie A side tried to sign Fornals in the January window, but weren’t able to build a deal.
Since then it’s been claimed they’ve returned for another go, and therefore the suggestion was Napoli have lost out to West Ham.
Some Italian sources have it otherwise.
CalcioNapoli24 have covered words from journalist Marcello Calvano on a radio station which covers Napoli.
He’s quoted as saying: “I was able to speak with the representative of the Toldra brothers, the representatives of Villarreal’s Spanish midfielder Pablo Fornals. They confirmed there’s a €27m offer from West Ham, and now negotiations will begin to reach an agreement with the player. The last time January showed up was around January, but there were no further contacts.”
The message is that whilst Fornals is considered close to a West Ham move, Napoli aren’t actually missing out because they haven’t tried anything since the winter market.
With strong claims now coming from both Spain and Italy there certainly seems to be something behind this.
