Aston Villa made an approach for Barcelona’s Fermín López in the winter market.
That’s according to a ‘confidential’ report from Sport, and they cover Aston Villa’s failure to sign him in January.
The attacking midfielder has managed five goals and five assists from 25 games this season. On Sunday, he scored his fifth goal against Sevilla and was then sent off in the same tie.
López’s performances have seen him being ‘tempted’ by the Premier League, where Aston Villa are one of the interested parties.
The newspaper claims several clubs contacted Barca to take the 21-year-old away from the Camp Nou. These clubs were willing to offer close to €70m in the last window, but the player wasn’t interested in a move.
According to the report, the Spain international didn’t want to listen to offers made by the Villans and Manchester United.
It’s to be noted Sport have been dragging the Red Devils into the picture since last summer. It’s unlikely Ruben Amorim’s side made a bid close to €70m for the Spaniard considering they had to be cautious with their spending in January.
López’s desire is to succeed at Barca and has made this clear to the club and his agent.
Despite the January failure, it’s claimed Aston Villa and Manchester United are likely to return for him in the summer.
