For the past few weeks, multiple reports in England and Spain have discussed Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Adama Traoré.
On Monday, Las Provincias explained Spurs intend to close the deal for the winger and then let Bryan Gil, who has struggled for minutes in his first months at the club, go out on loan in the winter market.
Barcelona are also in picture to sign Traoré, likely as a possible replacement for Ousmane Dembélé. The Frenchman’s contract expires in June and after refusing to sign a new deal, he has been asked to find a new club in January.
A ‘confidential’ report from today’s edition of Sport explains the 25-year-old’s name has been on the Camp Nou side’s table for weeks.
The La Liga side are clear they will need an ‘explosive’ attacker and the Wolves man has been identified as a target. It’s claimed he would be ‘delighted to return’ to his old club.
Traoré’s agent Jorge Mendes offered him to Barca and he ‘meets the requirements’. The player knows the Catalan club, is a ‘pure winger’, and is available for a reasonable price.
He visited Barcelona during Christmas and Xavi Hernández’s side took advantage of this to hold talks with the Spain international.
Sport explain Traoré made it clear ‘his priority to sign for Barca, despite the fact he has a very good offer from Tottenham on the table’.
Antonio Conte’s side ‘would like him for now’, in January, but the attacker prefers to join the Blaugrana, knowing that Dembélé’s potential exit ‘paves the way for him’.
Traoré will cost Barcelona around €20m and they are ‘very well positioned’ to secure his services. However, Sport make it clear ‘the decision has not yet been made’ on Bruno Lage’s winger.
This could give Tottenham an opportunity to convince Traoré to join Spurs over Barcelona in the last week of the January window.
