For a long time, Kurt Zouma was at Chelsea without ever really breaking into the first-team for lengthy periods of time.

The defender was always a squad player for most managers, but for him to grow, it was felt that a move away was needed, which is what he got when he was bought by West Ham United.

The Hammers, in need of defensive reinforcements, gifted the Frenchman to David Moyes, who didn’t waste any time in getting the best out of his new centre-back, as he has already become a key part of the Scottish manager’s plans.

His performances haven’t gone unnoticed, which is why Zouma is in the France squad, and Didier Deschamps was asked about his man’s start to the season with West Ham.

He said, relayed by L’Equipe: “What changes for him, is that he was in a very big club where his game time was limited, but he’s been with us for a while. Today, his club situation brings him more confidence and serenity.

“When you start the training week and you don’t have to worry about whether or not you’ll be playing at the weekend, there’s a sort of calmness that allows you to concentrate on your performances”.

Barring the first game against Southampton, where he was on the bench, Zouma has started and finished every single game since the 2-1 loss against Manchester United.

He has, however, been rested in the Europa League, which shows just how much Moyes wants to keep him fresh to perform in the Premier League, where West Ham currently sit fourth after beating Aston Villa 4-1 at the weekend.
