Enzo Maresca has Reece James and Malo Gusto as his two right-backs at Chelsea.
James has struggled with injuries in recent years. He hasn’t made an appearance this season as the fullback, sidelined with a hamstring injury since August.
Recent claims from the UK have said Chelsea want to sign a new right-back in January. It was also stated they have identified Barcelona’s Jules Koundé as a target.
Mundo Deportivo relay that and then share their own updates on the possibility of the Blues signing the 25-year-old in the winter market.
The France international can operate as a centre-back and as a right-back. He has made six appearances for Barca this season and Hansi Flick has used him on the right side of the defence.
Mundo say it’s ‘very difficult’ for the former Sevilla man to leave the Camp Nou. He’s one of the key players at the club. Barca sporting director Deco had recently stated they are unwilling to let any of their stars leave.
Sport have also provided their take on the Blues looking at the defender. His transfer to Chelsea can help Barca raise a lot of funds.
However, Koundé wants to stay at Barcelona, where he has a deal lasting until 2027. This makes it a ‘complicated operation’ for the Premier League side.
