Lyon have been linked with a move for Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho in the French media. The France international is surplus to requirements at Liverpool after clashing with manager Jurgen Klopp, and will be looking for a permanent transfer this summer.
L’Equipe have reported Lyon are expected to be busy in the next transfer window, with a potential windfall from the sale of Alexandre Lacazette. If the Lyon forward gets his big money move to Atletico Madrid, Lyon will look to bring in players including a left back and a central defender this summer.
Lyon have a shortlist of defenders they would like to sign in the next window, and Liverpool’s Sakho is one of those. This would be a great opportunity for the Liverpool outcast to get his career back on track and provide a good platform ahead of World Cup 2018, but L’Equipe believe a deal could be ‘complicated’. Nicolas Nkoulou, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa and Simon Kjaer are said to be the other defenders on Lyon’s wanted list.
Sakho spent the first half of this season playing for Liverpool U23s after his issues with Klopp. The Frenchman was then loaned out to Crystal Palace in January for six months, and was instrumental in helping the south London side avoid relegation to the Championship.
The complications Lyon, Crystal Palace, and others will have when signing Sakho, likely revolved around the high fee Liverpool are asking for.
