Despite all the excitement in Argentina about hosting the U-20 World Cup this year, the national team ended up finding a quite complicated situation.
Manager Javier Mascherano is struggling to get players released by European clubs to feature in the tournament, and Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Facundo Buonanotte is one of them.
A new report from TyC Sports (via Cesar Luis Merlo) claims that the national team coach already held meetings in England to try to convince the Premier League sides.
It is, however, ‘very complicated’ for Buonanotte to join Argentina, because Brighton are playing hardball in those talks.
The U-20 World Cup is taking place between the end of May and the start of June, and that means the midfielder would miss the final fixtures of the season with the Seagulls.
Even though Brighton will not be playing the FA Cup final, they’re still focused on their Premier League campaign, where they can fight for a place in the Conference League or even the Europa League.
So it does make sense that Roberto De Zerbi doesn’t want to lose him for the U-20 team.
Now since reports from Argentina said Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho has asked Erik ten Hag to release him for the tournament, let’s see what Buonanotte’s reaction will be.
