Former Midtjylland midfielder Tim Sparv has admitted he and his old teammates were left dancing in the dressing room after beating Manchester United in 2016.
Tipsbladet has an interview with the 38-year-old today in which he looks back on his career and one of the most famous moments of it.
Sparv was a part of the team that famously beat Manchester United back in 2016, securing a 2-1 win over the Premier League giants in the first leg of the last 32 of the Europa League that year.
It was one of the biggest nights in the Danish side’s history as goals from Pione Sisto and Paul Onuachu turned the game around following Memphis Depay’s 37th minute opener.
Sadly, they were unable to pick up a similar result in the second leg a week later as Manchester United ran out 5-1 winners despite Sisto opening the scoring in the 27th minute to give the away side hope at Old Trafford.
That result didn’t matter, though, as they had secured their memorable moment in the first leg, although Sparv admits he was celebrating before they’d even stepped on the pitch.
“I’m a big United fan, and I remember being in the Seychelles with my ex-girlfriend and being on the beach and having a good time,” he said.
“I might have had some mojitos or something like that. And then my phone just started ringing with a bunch of messages saying that we had drawn Manchester United.
“I was absolutely euphoric about meeting my favorite team and getting to play at Old Trafford. It’s also an experience I remember and that means a lot today. We hadn’t played any significant games all winter, and then we went out and won against a team like Manchester United.
“It certainly wasn’t in the cards. I especially remember the atmosphere in the locker room after the United game. There was always a good atmosphere, it was Paul Onuachu and Pione Sisto who led the dance, and we were just a lot of players who had a good time together. We were ambitious and professional.”
