In his press conference on Friday, Marco Silva played down the idea of Yerry Mina having suffered a serious setback in his battle to get fit.

When the defender arrived from Barcelona it wasn’t thought he wouldn’t have made his Everton debut by this point, and there’s been all kinds of worried chatter in the Colombian media about Mina’s foot injury being more serious than first thought.

As the former Barcelona player finally seemed to be back to full fitness this week, then came bad news from Colombia, with it being claimed Jair Mina, the player’s agent and uncle, had told Gol Caracol Radio that there’d be a serious setback.

There’s been different takes on what Uncle Jair said to the radio channel, which is one of the country’s biggest.

LAFM, a major media outlet, went with a national team slant and they said Mina has been ruled out of Colombia’s matches on October 11th and 17th.

Caracol Radio’s official website said Jair revealed a fracture to Mina’s fifth metatarsal and an absence of four weeks. This is the line being taken by the Colombian media, largely fed by Jair Mina.

We know that during the Everton transfer saga, Jair continually spoke to the media in his own country so it makes sense for him to do so again. What doesn’t make sense is that such a direct diagnosis of ‘fifth metatarsal fracture’ has then been denied by Silva.

Somewhere there’s a misunderstanding, unless the Premier League club just aren’t happy with how the news got out and that’s prompted their reaction.
