If Colombian radio station Alargue Caracol are to be believed on Friday, then Southampton are trying to sign CF America’s Mateus Uribe.
The midfielder, who is currently with the Colombia national team preparing for the World Cup in Russia, is expected to be the subject of a $25m offer from the Saints, which equates to around £18.7m.
Arriving at the Mexican club from Colombian side Atlético Nacional last August, the 27-year-old enjoyed a very good season with the Liga MX side, scoring 11 goals and picking up two assists in 31 appearances.
This isn’t the first time Uribe has been linked with a move away from América, with Publimetro claiming of an interest from Real Madrid, without anything concrete coming from it.
We’ll have to wait and see if this one, sending him to Southampton, is similar.
Prior to his move to Mexico last year, the midfielder had spent the past five years in his home country with spells at Envigado, Deportes Tolima and Atlético Nacional.
Rest assured we will be keeping an eye on the Colombian media from here on in to see if anything new pops up.
