Ternana coach Benito Carbone has spoken about of his joy at being able to retain the services of his star forward Felipe Avenatti. With all the turmoil at the Serie B side this summer the Uruguayan looked to be on his way out, with claims Leeds United had made an approach.

Speaking to Ternana News, Carbone was asked about keeping hold of Aveantti despite the interest from other clubs for the forward. The Ternana coach said Avenatti remaining with the club was like a big signing, and they did everything to keep him. Carbone believes the 23-year-old is a great forward, and is therefore happy they succeeded.

“Let’s say they were our big purchases. We have done everything possible to retain them, and we succeeded. Avenatti is a great striker, while Falletti has great personality and charisma. He’s already a leader in the group,” said Carbone.

Leeds United have been linked with Avenatti for the past 12 months, and during the last window there have been claims in Italy the Championship side have approached Ternana with regards to the South American.

It was also reported Serie A sides were also monitoring the player, and until he renews his contract with Ternana speculation is unlikely to go away with regards to him leaving the Umbrian side.
