Tottenham Hotspur find themselves in something of an international break whirlwind right now.
Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso both travelled to South America to take part in Argentina’s matches, despite Spurs not wanting them to go. Reports on Monday morning from Argentina claimed the Tottenham pair are pressuring the club to allow them to stay and face Bolivia on Thursday night, and there was no clarity over what would happen.
It’s been a similar situation with Davinson Sanchez, who travelled to play for Colombia and perhaps now wishes he hadn’t. The defender has been receiving heavy criticism from the media in his home country after a poor performance against Paraguay.
Iván Mejía Álvarez, a well known pundit in Colombia, took to Twitter to tell his 500k followers that Sanchez was ‘clumsy and incompetent’.
Sanchez will now be expected to fly back to Europe, after he picked up a yellow card in the match. AS Colombia report the Tottenham man won’t be available for Thursday night’s match against Chile, as the booking triggered a one match suspension.
There’s now no reason for Sanchez to stay, and he should be making his way back to Europe, likely Croatia, so he can start the process to be allowed to return to Spurs.
